Pharrell Williams - Freedom

Pharrell Williams is surely the guy you know will bring something inspirational to music scene.  There is no doubt that he accomplishes this with his latest video release "FREEDOM".  The music is welcoming and the lyrics speak to one theme: The evolution of our thinking.  The video has very powerful imaging that drives the point of no matter where you are from you must seek the freedom on your mind from the negative of the world surrounding you.  Bottom line, we are one and we must begin to unify our efforts so a better life will find us at every turn.

At-least that's what we got from it...

The Eminem Effect - Why Meek Mill Can't Win Against Drake

Anyone who has ever seen the movie 8 Mile knows that Eminem brought about the resurgence of battle rap.  Though battle rap has been around since the beginning of hip-hop, Eminem's movie highlighted a specific style of battle.  The Psychological Break down approach.   This is something that Drake (or his writers) are very good at because its his complete style of rap (Let me also give props where its due by stating that Kanye & Eminem pioneered the style "in the mainstream" since entering the music scene as artists).  It's clear that audiences always respond better when you make them think about what's being said.  So, when its time for Meek Mill to respond and he brings that fire aggression, that's signature to his style, but doesn't really break down Drake's faults then it just comes across as the same ole same ole.

The reality is battle rap or diss tracks were taken to another level when Ether dropped by Nas.  Jay-Z was killing Nas with his wit and arrogant flow initially but in the final rounds Nas came through with a winner.  Nas broke down Jay-Z so badly that, in my opinion, he delivered the knock out blow that made him the clear winner in their rap battle.  Nas clearly used the Psychological Break down approach and had Jay-Z fans like  DAAAAAMMMNNNN!

Now, I could be wrong.  Meek Mill may come back with diss after diss with an arsenal of punch lines, metaphors and jabs to put Drake in his place but as history shows people rarely deviate from their style of rap.  So, Ideally Drake is probably laughing all the way to the bank because for the kid everyone secretly hated on, he is now becoming the guy you want to win.

Meek Mill Responds To Drake With A Diss Track "Wanna Know"

upload.png

Meek Mill came back with a Diss record going at Drake with a side salad of aggression on a beat by Jhalil Beats & Swizz Beats.  The song had promise but got stopped by a few movie and sound clips after every couple of bars.  I get it, it was kind of funny and he thru a few jabs but nothing really stuck out that made me say YES, HE KILLED DRAKE....   Nope didn't happen.  Even hardcore Meek Mill fans are like WTF.  So as it stands, it's Drake 2 - Meek 0.... Til the next episode but for now, I don't "Wanna Know" at all

Drake's "Back To Back" Meek Mill Diss Song

Drake's "Back To Back" Diss song got so much hype that I thought I was going to hear this ETHER type song that was going to really put Meek Mill in his place... I got 6 lines (ehhh maybe 8) of Fire and the regular flow over this average beat... I enjoyed it because I think battles and verbal beefs are good for sales and streams in Hip-hop.  I actually like when people are getting paid to entertain the public and thats exactly what has happened.  The memes and vid-memes have been absolutely hilarious.  But, lets be clear, in this battle Meek has yet to respond and whether you like him or not, he is known to bring the fire.

The level of greatness pales in comparison to the Jay-z & Nas battle of yesterday but we will wait and see how far it goes...

Jacquees - Ms. Kathy (Make Up)

Jacquees

Jacquees

Do you remember "I'm sorry Ms. Jackson", the very popular lyrics from Andre 3000 of Outkast that explained how a man should make a mends to the creator (mother) of a beautiful Princess that didn't get treated very well in her relationship.  ATL singer Jacquees is no new comer to the music scene but is creating a freshman buzz on the streets like no other.  His latest single "Ms. Kathy" takes a page from the old OutKast book by explaining the 2015 version of young love to the mother of his love interest.  The lyrics may not apply to everyone but for those who can relate, ITS DEAD ON...  Overall, its good Trap-Soul to ride with!

Purple WondaLuv - The Eternal Peace EP

Musiq Soulchild has reinvented himself again and changed his name to Purple WondaLuv.  It's not clear what his inspiration was but I do know that the music has a lot of Jazz and Sade 80's music origins with a touch of a lot of soul.  The vocal vibe says relaxation with a message which guides this entire project.  "The Eternal Peace" EP mentally knocks on the door of finding some level of inner peace with words like "Only Love Can Save Us", while tiptoeing around the world of complications we must endure daily.  The project is completely written and produced by Purple WondaLuv and from a producer's perspective that is a recipe for disaster.  But, after listening closely, he is attempting to reach a the healing portion of the soul that each listener has within and thankfully I got it!  If your looking for the typical Musiq Soulchild, this is not for you.  This is for the audience that is looking to expand their minds and look for inner peace within themselves through Musiq...

Anthony Lewis - "Its Not My Fault" Ft T.I.

The industry has been able to produce some quality singers over the past few years.  But, the faces of R&B have been the same in the mainstream media since 2005.  Here in 2015, major labels have been attempting a push of some very talented young R&B artists.  Anthony Lewis is in that pool and making his way to the top of the list.  His latest effort "It's Not My Fault" is a funky fun sampled horn driven song that will generate a few nods of the head and taps of your feet.  T.I. brings in the major flow on the song to give it that slight edge of street credibility.

Joe - Love & Sex Pt. 2 ft. Kelly Rowland

Mr. Joe Thomas is surely in the running for Mr. Consistent.  We have seen Joe grow musically with time but the one thing he has not swayed from is Soul R&B Music.  He focuses on love and relationships like no other.  Album after album he gives his fans exactly what they want and expect.  His latest effort Love & Sex Pt. 2 ft. Kelly Rowland chronicles two critical factors in maintaining a solid relationship in 2015.  You be the judge.

Omarion Ft. Chris Brown & Jhene Aiko - Post To Be (Official Video)

At this stage in music, we are seeing many different kinds of collaborations.  Some that are shocking and some that just makes sense.  Omarion, Jhene Aiko & Chris Brown just makes sense to me.  Three great artists having on a feel good track.  "Post To Be" is fun, energetic and danceable on any level or dance floor.  The recent release of the official video shows how having fun with great artists can come across almost effortless.  We look forward to future collaborations by these artists and wish them continued success with their solo careers.

Bryson Tiller - Don't (Under The Radar)

Bryson Tiller.  This Kentucky native is a bed of talent unseen.  The Hip-Hop Singer Writer etc has a long list of exceptional southern driven music material on YouTube, Instagram and etc that will keep you entertained for quite some time.  We are very surprised he has not been picked up by a major but his brand of creativity might be way above the industry standard.  With that being said, "Don't" is a fresh overlook of love and the conflict of interest pulling at your coat tale. Enjoy!
